Covid 19 Policies

Bugonaygeshig Families and Students –

The Bugonaygeshig School continues to take a cautious approach with COVID, and throughout the pandemic safety has always been our highest priority. Last school year, we did distance learning for the majority of the year, and only operated at 25% capacity when we did hybrid learning. This year, like so many other schools, we started the year with in person learning because we know it works best for our children. We are very cautious in our approach to in person learning, including requiring masks, offering rapid testing onsite, and requiring quarantine periods for any positive cases or close contacts. Still, it has been challenging, and over the first month of the school year we’ve had several positive cases amongst staff and students. In all situations, we have required individuals to quarantine and only return after a specific number of days and after getting a negative test result. We require masks at school and our custodial crew works hard to keep our learning areas disinfected and clean. As the year continues, the staff and School Board will make decisions in the best interest of safety for our school community. If you have questions about our COVID planning, please contact the school for updated information.

For Families Choosing Distance Learning – As we learned during the 2020-21 school year, distance learning feels quite different from learning in person. We are happy to offer both for the start of the 2021-22 school year, and we want to make sure we are setting up our Distance Learning Program in a way that leads to success for our students. In order to get your student(s) off to a good start with distance learning, we are requiring families to meet at the school. These meetings will be with just a classroom teacher and our Technology Director. We will issue devices, make sure students and parents know how to access various programs and accounts, and review our Distance Learning Contract. If you plan to have your child learn via distance this year, please contact your child’s teacher as soon as possible to set up your meeting!
